Dear RUHS Band Members and Families,
First and foremost, let me express the incredible pride I feel, as your principal, as you prepare for your trip to New York City!
As musicians representing RUHS, you will be flying to perform somewhere perhaps no Sea Hawk has performed before…Carnegie Hall! Dr. Wesley, your previous principal, calls this “the opportunity of a lifetime” and I couldn’t agree more. We are so proud of our students for earning this honor, and we appreciate all that Mr. Vizcarra, band parents, and others have done to make it possible.
Of course, with this honor and opportunity, comes responsibility. Fortunately, the students in band have an excellent record; therefore, we are not worried about any misbehavior on this trip. However, in good conscience, we must share a few reminders:
• Please remember you represent the band program, your band director, your classmates, your families, RUHS, and RBUSD. Continue to demonstrate your pride, honor, and integrity at all times
• Make safe, mature, and common-sense decisions
• Follow the directions of staff and chaperones throughout the trip
Now that boring stuff has been said, let me restate again how PROUD we are. A common saying around here is that RUHS is the best high school in the South Bay, but lately people have been saying the best high school in the state, or maybe even better! Well, this event certainly puts us on the national stage, in a world-class venue. For that, we are indebted to you!
I’m envious that Mr. Erickson, Mr. Vizcarra, Dr. Wesley, and the parents get to join you on this trip; I wish I could be there! However, duty calls as I have to stay behind here at RUHS. Enjoy your time with each other in New York City and Carnegie Hall.
Have a safe and wonderful trip!
Mr. Jens Brandt
